Rishabh Pant opts out of the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series
Cricbuzz says that wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has requested his release from the One Day International (ODI) squad against Bangladesh. According to the report, his departure from the limited-overs phase of the tour is not owing to any disciplinary reasons or a Covid-19 worry. Pant is expected to return for the Test series beginning on December 14th.
According to an official announcement, the southpaw was dropped from the squad based on the medical team’s recommendations. However, Cricbuzz has said that it is unable to corroborate the cause behind Pant’s request to be excused from the ODI series. There has been no replacement sought, although KL Rahul kept wickets in the first game and Ishan Kishan is already in the team.
“In consultation, Rishabh Pant has been released from the ODI squad. He will join the team ahead of the Test series. No replacement has been sought,” a statement regarding Pant read. Mohammed Shami had been ruled out of the entire series whereas Axar Patel was side-lined from the first ODI due to a rib injury.

Rishabh Pant has been dropped from the ODI team, although he is still eligible for Tests.
Patel, on the other hand, will be eligible for selection in the next games. Shami, on the other hand, has reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for shoulder rehabilitation. The team management is waiting for an update from the NCA on the situation. This has cast doubt on his participation in the Test series between the two countries, which begins on December 14th.
The two-match Test series is crucial since it is India’s last assignment of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle (WTC). Furthermore, the squad is facing a series defeat after losing the first ODI and would need to win consecutive games to prevent an embarrassing series defeat.
India did not manage to win the first game against Bangladesh despite their well-fought effort, even though India did not post a huge total and the target was fairly easy to chase they did end up giving Bangladesh a tough fight and made it into an exciting nail-biting contest, it went down to the wire and Bangladesh just managed to take it home with an outstanding final wicket knock by the tail-enders of the team. India must have been heartbroken and shattered as they fought well but could not manage to get the last wicket of Bangladesh.
With the second ODI currently underway and Bangladesh having posted a great target this time, the chase seems tough but India will have to win the game to make the series 1-1 and have a shot at winning the series. If they manage to lose this match as well then there will be no hope left for them in this series and it will be a big upset in the world of cricket.
